US Utility Capex to Top US$200 Billion in 2025 — a Record Driven by the AI Power Boom

The AI compute race is translating into real power infrastructure investment. The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) projects US utility capital expenditure of US$207.9 billion in 2025 — up over 16% year-on-year — rising to US$248.4 billion by 2029. Distribution networks take the largest share (~32.7%), followed by transmission expansion and generation modernization.

Demand-side numbers are equally striking: the US Department of Energy expects AI data center power demand to grow from 176TWh in 2023 to 325–580TWh by 2028, or 6.7%–12% of total US electricity. PJM, the largest US grid operator, has even faced a regulatory complaint over the pace of data center interconnections.

From interstate transmission projects to substation expansion and distribution modernization, this historic investment cycle is driving demand for high-voltage equipment testing, commissioning, and monitoring services — and Taiwan’s power equipment and testing supply chain stands to benefit.

Wintech Electric’s PD instruments comply with international standards and support equipment acceptance and in-service monitoring for overseas grid projects.
